One Hove Park
Old Shoreham Road, Hove
Client: Hyde Housing
Value: Confidential
Status: Pre Planning
One Hove Park is the site of a former language school and has been vacant since 2007. The site has had two previous planning applications by another architectural practice but both were refused. Yelo have been commissioned to prepare a 3rd application which aims to be successful with a consent.
Having known the site for a number of years we are planning a different angle than the previous architects. Our proposal will be very site specific and will be focused towards providing a sensitive response to its setting. We are working with a landscape designer (Nicholas Dexter) and this will be a major feature of the scheme with individual gardens and a stunning communal garden.
The norm for large residential schemes in Brighton recently seems to be to cover them in white render however our scheme will be render free - ours is entirely brick. We're also sourcing our bricks from Sussex.
The green credentials will be significantly enhanced with our proposal, we're adopting a fabric first design where we superinsulate the building and make sure it has very low energy usage. Our landscape designer is also doing some very clever things with recycling water and also reusing all the old bricks from the existing building.
